Lianyungang Teachers College, formerly known as Jiangsu Eighth Teachers College, was founded in 19 14. It used to be the highest institution of higher learning and the cradle of teachers in the "Haigan Shuguan" area, and it was also the birthplace of early party organizations and the base of revolutionary activities in this area. 1990 was commended by the state education commission as a national excellent normal college with "training qualified teachers in basic education, clear direction and remarkable achievements".
