If you are qualified to participate in the AMEP program, you can take up to 565,438+00 hours of English courses, or until you master practical English, whichever comes first. If you are a refugee or an immigrant on humanitarian grounds, you have had painful experiences such as torture or trauma before coming to Australia, or you have only received a little formal education, maybe you can take more English classes.
You must register for AMEP courses with the local AMEP service organization within three months after you arrive in Australia or obtain permanent residence status. You must start classes within one year, otherwise you may not be able to take part in AMEP to learn English. Once you enter school, if your family, work or other responsibilities make it difficult for you to come to class, you can postpone the start of English class.
AMEP provides many different learning methods. You can attend classes full-time or part-time during the day, night or weekend. Courses are held in urban and rural areas. You can learn English at home through distance learning or with the help of a tutor. If your child is a preschool child, your service organization can arrange free childcare for you during your class.
Your AMEP teacher will not only teach you English, but also help you understand the Australian lifestyle and some daily activities, such as banking, shopping, job hunting, and participating in community activities. Your classmates are in the same situation as you, so you can exchange some useful tips with each other.
English courses are held in learning centers and places in many different places.
Other options for learning English
English teaching is also provided in targeted programmes managed by the Ministry of Education, Employment and Industrial Relations. The Ministry of Education, Employment and Industrial Relations has formulated three employment-related language programs for adults of working age (15–64).
The first is the Language, Reading, Writing and Arithmetic Skills Improvement Program (LLNP), which provides 800 hours of free language, reading, writing and arithmetic skills training for those who find it difficult to find a job because of their poor reading, writing or English skills.
If you are not eligible to participate in the Adult Immigrant English Program or have completed the Adult Immigrant English Program courses, you may be eligible to participate in the Language, Reading, Writing and Arithmetic Skills Improvement Program. Language, reading, writing and arithmetic skills improvement programs include English listening, speaking, reading, writing, mathematics and vocational study to help you find a job. To meet the entry requirements, you must register as a job seeker at Centrelink.
