Hunan Province, referred to as "Xiang" for short, is the provincial administrative region of People's Republic of China (PRC) (China), with Changsha as its capital, Jiangxi Province in the east, Chongqing and Guizhou Province in the west, Guangdong and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in the south and Hubei Province in the north. Hunan is named because most of the area is located in the south of Dongting Lake, and it is also called "Xiang" for short because Xiangjiang River, the largest river in the province, runs through the whole territory. Since ancient times, it has been known as the "autumn wind country", and it was also known as the "Furong country" in the Five Dynasties. It is one of the important birthplaces of Chinese civilization.

Hunan province is located in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, and most provinces are south of Dongting Lake, so it is called Hunan. Xiangjiang river runs through the north and south of the province, so it is called Xiang for short. Located between108 47' ~1415' east longitude and 24 38' ~ 30 08' north latitude, Mufu Mountain and Wugong Mountain border Jiangxi Province in the east. Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau borders Guizhou Province to the west.
Wuling mountain range is adjacent to Chongqing in the northwest; Nanling is adjacent to Guangdong Province and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in the south, and the lakeside plain in the north of Hubei Province. The provincial boundary is east to Huang Lianping, Guidong County, west to xinhuang dong autonomous county Jiucaitang, south to Guposhan, Jianghua Yao Autonomous County, and north to Hupingshan, Shimen County. It is 667 kilometers wide from east to west and 774 kilometers long from north to south.
