Hunan Province, referred to as "Xiang" for short, is the provincial administrative region of People's Republic of China (PRC) (China), with Changsha as its capital, Jiangxi Province in the east, Chongqing and Guizhou Province in the west, Guangdong and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in the south and Hubei Province in the north. It is located in the transition zone from Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau to Jiangnan Hill and Nanling Mountains to Jianghan Plain.

The terrain is a horseshoe-shaped landform surrounded by mountains on three sides and open to the north. Hunan province is located in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, and most provinces are south of Dongting Lake, so it is called Hunan. Xiangjiang river runs through the north and south of the province, so it is called Xiang for short. Wuling mountain range is adjacent to Chongqing in the northwest; Nanling is adjacent to Guangdong Province and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in the south, and the lakeside plain in the north of Hubei Province. The provincial boundary is east to Huang Lianping, Guidong County, west to xinhuang dong autonomous county Jiucaitang, south to Guposhan, Jianghua Yao Autonomous County, and north to Hupingshan, Shimen County. It is 667 kilometers wide from east to west and 774 kilometers long from north to south.
