The May 7th Cadre School was a place where cadres of Party and government organs, scientific and technological personnel and college teachers were sent to rural areas to work in the name of carrying out Mao Zedong's "May 7th Directive" and receiving re-education for poor peasants during the Cultural Revolution in China. 1on may 7th, 966, in a letter to Lin Biao, Mao Zedong proposed that all trades and professions should concentrate on one industry, learn from other industries, engage in agricultural sideline and criticize the bourgeoisie. 1On May 7th, 968, to commemorate the second anniversary of Mao Zedong's "May 7th Instruction", Heilongjiang sent a large number of government officials to work and set up a farm in Liuhe, Qing 'an County, which was named "May 7th Cadre School". 1968 10 5, People's Daily quoted Mao Zedong's relevant instructions in the editor's note of the article "Liuhe May 7th Cadre School provides new experience for the revolutionization of organs": "The decentralization of cadres is an excellent opportunity for cadres to study again, and everyone should do so except the old, the weak, the sick and the disabled. On-the-job cadres should also decentralize labor in batches. " Since then, party and government organs all over the country have responded by opening May 7th Cadre School in rural areas. A large number of cadres, teachers, experts, literary and art workers and other intellectuals from party and government organs, institutions of higher learning, cultural, educational and scientific fronts were sent to the countryside to take part in manual labor in the May 7th Cadre School and receive re-education for poor peasants. The Central Committee and the State Council ministries and commissions, as well as Henan, Jiangxi, Hubei, Liaoning, Kyrgyzstan, Heilongjiang and other provinces 106 established106 May 7th cadre schools, with a total of more than 654.38 million decentralized cadres and their families. The slogan at that time was "roll in the mud and make a red heart." The May 7th Cadre School was established under the guidance of the "Left" wrong policy, which exaggerated the importance of manual labor and neglected the concentrated expression of mental labor. It not only wastes a lot of manpower and material resources, but also consumes a lot of valuable time of intellectuals. Many cadre schools have become places for persecuting cadres, which have greatly damaged the self-esteem and physical health of cadres and intellectuals and encouraged the atmosphere of "useless knowledge". 1February 7, 979, the State Council issued the "Notice on Issues Related to Closing the May 7th Cadre School", and the May 7th Cadre School in various places was closed one after another.
