Product quality responsibility (i.e. warranty responsibility for defects, also known as seller's warranty responsibility for defects in subject matter) refers to the legal consequences that producers, sellers and people who are directly responsible for product quality should bear if they violate the product quality obligations stipulated in the Product Quality Law.

The liability for warranty against defects includes the liability for warranty against defects in rights and the liability for warranty against defects in articles. If the operator violates the product quality law, it only refers to the liability for guaranteeing the defects of the goods.

The current liability system for warranty of defects is stipulated in the Regulations on Purchase and Sale Contracts of Industrial and Mining Products, the Regulations on Quality Liability of Industrial Products and the Product Quality Law promulgated by the State Council.

According to Article 26 of the Product Quality Law, "the producer shall be responsible for the quality of the products he produces", and the quality of the products shall "have the service performance that the products should have, except that the service performance of the products is defective".
