Sun Yunxiao: Boys are becoming a forgotten group.
At present, most of the "poor students" in many schools are boys, and teachers generally lack attention to these children. Throughout the country, from primary school to university, the vast majority of people who were beaten, scolded and expelled were boys.
"We found that from kindergarten to university, boys' academic performance was a complete failure. Boys are still trapped in physical crisis, psychological crisis and social crisis, and it is getting worse and worse. " Sun Yunxiao said that it is a little late to put forward the idea of "saving the boy", and "better late than never".
What worries researchers even more is that society is at a loss or turns a blind eye to this. Sun Yunxiao said that the book "Save the Boy" was shouting: "Attention, parents and teachers of the boy, the cliff is ahead!"
China is more prone to "boy crisis"
The boy crisis is not characteristic of China. William Pollack, a psychologist at Harvard University, said in his book Real Boys that contemporary boys are "timid" and "lack of self-confidence", and their achievements are "far less than" contemporary girls. In 2000, Christina Hof Summers, a philosopher of the American Enterprise Institute, criticized feminism for creating a war against boys.
In Sun Yunxiao's view, the current exam-oriented education system makes China more prone to boy crisis than other countries.
According to his analysis, exam-oriented education is not good for boys and girls, and it is more harmful to boys. First of all, school education ignores gender differences, and the active, competitive and rebellious nature of some boys is often regarded as a shortcoming, and "assets" become "liabilities"; Moreover, exam-oriented education emphasizes brain rather than hands-on ability, and boys who are born to "want to run and jump" are pressed to study in their seats and lack proper exercise; Then, the school and society adopt a single evaluation method, with "good grades" as the only requirement, which makes the boy deeply frustrated; In addition, most teachers in schools are women, and there is a lack of male teachers in the educational environment. The evaluation model of female teachers is more beneficial to girls, and its educational methods are not conducive to the growth of boys.
Sun Yunxiao conducted four comparative studies on senior high school students in four countries, namely China, Japan, South Korea and the United States, and primary school students in the capitals of China, Japan and South Korea, and found that children in China have the greatest academic burden and competitive pressure, and the boy crisis in China is also the most serious.
