"Sex education is an indispensable part of school education, and comprehensive education should make good use of the key window period of kindergarten." On March 1 day, Chen Wei said in an interview with The Paper (www.thepaper.cn).
She said that the purpose of comprehensive education is to equip children and adolescents with certain knowledge, skills, attitudes and values, so as to ensure their health, happiness and dignity. "Curriculum-based comprehensive education programs can delay the first sexual intercourse, reduce the frequency of sexual intercourse, reduce the number of risky behaviors, and increase the use of contraception."
According to Chen Wei, at present, there are fewer kindergartens that carry out sex education in China, and even fewer kindergartens that conform to the concept of comprehensive education. Most preschool teachers have not received special sex education training, so it is difficult to find a localized sex education picture book.
She suggested that sex education in schools should start from kindergarten and make good use of the key window period of kindergarten education to lay a good foundation for children's future study.
Chen Wei believes that the state should improve relevant policies, support kindergartens to carry out sex education, formulate corresponding curriculum outlines or guidelines, and clarify the schedule of sex education classes. We should set aside corresponding class hours for sex education in kindergarten curriculum and build a systematic sex education curriculum. At the same time, it is necessary to strengthen the research and development of "Chinese-style teaching materials" for sex education in kindergartens, including guides, children's picture books, teachers' teaching books, parents' guidance books, etc., and accelerate the training of sex education teachers in kindergartens.
"The implementation of sex education is often accompanied by public opinion, with support and opposition. Most of these objections are based on misunderstandings about sex education, including insufficient understanding of the connotation of sex education and prejudice and discrimination caused by gender stereotypes. " Chen Wei told the newspaper that some sex education books were asked to be taken off the shelves because there were different opinions on the Internet. Education authorities should not use administrative means to demand the removal of formal sex education publications on the grounds of calming "public opinion", arbitrarily deprive students of the right to receive sex education, hinder students from obtaining scientific sex knowledge, and affect the normal development of sex education in schools.
