What is a SCI paper?
SCI papers refer to academic journal papers published in SCI journals included in SCI, that is, scientific citation index.

The concept of SCI papers is vague among Chinese people, and a few people mistakenly think that SCI is a periodical, which was introduced by Nanjing University and has become a publication for academic evaluation, reward and punishment of major universities and scientific research institutions.

SCI investigates natural science journals all over the world, and any journal whose impact factor is greater than a certain critical value can enter the SCI system. Journals entering the SCI system are divided into two categories, inner circle and outer circle. The former has a higher impact factor than the latter. The former is called SCI journal and the latter is called SCIsearch journal.

Extended data:

SCI, founded by foreign institutions, is one of the platforms for academic exchanges at home and abroad. However, as SCI paper standards dominate all kinds of important core evaluation systems in the field of education and scientific research, the disadvantages of "distorting the pursuit of scientific and technological innovation value, exaggerating impetuous style of study, and seeking quick success and instant benefit" are increasingly prominent.

"SCI paper first" distorts the orientation of post-evaluation. The person in charge of the personnel department of a university in Guangdong said that at present, the scientific research projects, personal development and salary of faculty and staff are all linked to the indicators of SCI papers, which leads to the dislocation of indicators and post standards, leading to the blind pursuit of publishing SCI papers by non-scientific researchers such as managers and teaching assistants.
