Chancheng District under the jurisdiction of Foshan City, Guangdong Province is one of the five administrative districts in Foshan City, ranking 16 among the top 100 districts in China. It is the political, economic and cultural center of Foshan City, located in the central part of Guangdong Province and the downtown area of Foshan. Chancheng District is surrounded by Nanhai District of Foshan City on three sides, and is adjacent to Shunde District in the southeast.

It is about 30 kilometers away from Liwan District, Yuexiu District, Tianhe District, Haizhu District and Panyu District of Guangzhou. Chancheng is the residence of Foshan's political, financial, cultural, transportation and information center, and the tertiary industry is highly developed in Foshan. Foshan Chancheng, the largest commodity distribution center in southern China during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, was listed as one of the "four gathering places" in China (Beijing, Foshan, Suzhou and Hankou). Chancheng District is the birthplace of Cantonese opera and one of the birthplaces of Lingnan culture.

Geological landform

The geology of Chancheng District belongs to Quaternary strata, mainly clay, and the rest are sand layers with different particle sizes, belonging to the seventh degree earthquake zone. Mineral resources are mainly non-metallic minerals, gypsum is widely distributed, with wide layer thickness, good quality and abundant reserves, belonging to lacustrine evaporation gypsum salt deposits related to fault basins.

Chancheng District is a flat alluvial plain, with most of the elevation1.3 ~ 4.6m and scattered hills below 50m. The landform is dominated by accumulated land series, with a single type, belonging to delta plain. The delta plain is composed of clayey silt and silty soil, which belongs to the top layer of the Pearl River Delta. Most of the surface is covered by loose sediments, with a thickness of about 15 ~ 25m.
