Zhanjiang Institute of Science and Technology was restructured from Cunjin College of Guangdong Ocean University. The school was founded in 1999, approved as an independent college in 2006, awarded a bachelor's degree in 201,passed the evaluation of undergraduate teaching in independent college of Guangdong Provincial Education Department in 20 13, and was transformed into Zhanjiang with the approval of the Ministry of Education in 20021.

The school takes engineering and economic management as the main body, literature and art as the two wings, and pedagogy as an important supplement. There are 42 undergraduate majors, involving six disciplines: economics, literature, engineering, teaching, management and art. At present, Guangdong universities have two key disciplines: accounting and English language and literature, and two provincial-level specialty majors: musicology and landscape architecture.
