For a long time, China's parents paid little attention to their children's early intellectual development. Since 1980s, China has carried out reform and opening up, opened the closed door, strengthened cultural exchanges with foreign countries, and introduced foreign ideas on early childhood education into China.
Young parents in China have opened their eyes. In terms of children's education, it is refreshing to hear many unheard-of new sayings on TV or in books.
For example, American psychologist Bruner said that a child's intelligence developed by 50% at the age of four, by 30% at the age of eight, and the rest by the age of seventeen.
Makarenko, a famous educator in the former Soviet Union, said: "The foundation of education is mainly laid before the age of five, which accounts for 90% of the whole education process."
The famous Italian preschool educator Montessori said:
"The degree and importance of children's development in the first three years of life exceeds any stage of children's life ..."
Pavlov, a famous physiologist in the former Soviet Union, even made people regret, saying that "it is already two days late to start education on the third day after the baby is born."
Young parents are shocked to hear these statements, and they are eager for their children's intelligence to be developed as soon as possible.
At this time, some people in our country took the opportunity to add fuel to the fire and put forward the "child prodigy plan" for early intellectual development. The specific indicator is "literacy at the age of 0, literacy at the age of 3." And arbitrarily said: "All babies are prodigies!" "Can make prodigies enter thousands of households!"
As soon as this "plan" was introduced, some young parents could no longer sit still. Therefore, among some young parents, there is an upsurge of developing children's intelligence.
Predatory early intellectual development is tantamount to killing the goose that lays the golden egg.
But judging from the current situation, there are some worrying tendencies, that is, "over-exploitation". This is a rational view beyond the tolerance and acceptance of children. Some even carry out "predatory" development and tend to "kill the goose to get the egg".
For example, some children can't wait to teach them to read, do arithmetic, recite ancient poems and learn foreign languages when they are one to two years old and can't even speak fluently;
Some children have just turned three or four years old, so they ask professional teachers to teach piano, calligraphy and painting. Some of them have changed from "game-oriented" to "learning-oriented" before primary school, set up "classrooms" at home, use primary school textbooks as teaching materials, force children to concentrate on their studies, and make adequate arrangements every day so that children can lead a primary school life ahead of schedule.
Parents have put so much effort into it. If their children don't learn well and don't want to learn, can parents tolerate it? So, blame, reprimand, and even wait on Hou. According to some parents, children's intellectual resources are "inexhaustible". We must vigorously develop them and never be soft!
It should be admitted that children from 0 to 6 years old, physical and mental development is quite rapid, the brain is close to maturity. Preschool children have potential intelligence, which needs to be developed.
To develop, we must proceed from the reality of children and not rush into it. Beyond the range that children can bear, the implementation of "predatory" development and "haste makes waste" will also damage the normal development of children's body and mind.
That is to say, or "prodigy", few people succeed in the end.
There are gifted children in the society, who show their special talent and intelligence at an early age. That's what people often call a "prodigy". "prodigy" exists objectively. But "prodigies" are very few after all, accounting for a very small proportion of children, not more than three thousandths at most. Ancient and modern, Chinese and foreign, no exception.
It is incorrect to preach that "all babies are prodigies". It is impossible to say that "prodigies can enter thousands of households", but this is obviously fooling young parents.
Some parents, hearing that their two or three-year-old children can read 1000 words, think that their children can do it, and follow the prescription and spend a lot of money to implement any "project" or "plan" in an attempt to turn their children into "prodigies" envied by adults.
In fact, not all babies are prodigies. If every family carries out "child prodigy education" for their children, I wonder how many children will fall into "hot water"!
Young parents should be cool-headed and not hot-headed. Some people brag about how many "prodigies" they have produced. This is bragging. A vast country with a population of more than one billion and hundreds of millions of children, even if there are thousands of "prodigies", there is nothing to make a fuss about. In fact, those "prodigies" were not artificially created by everyone who concocted the "prodigy plan". This is a complete lie.
As a matter of fact, being able to recognize one or two thousand words at the age of 23 is not new in China; it has existed since ancient times. There are nearly a thousand kinds of written records in ancient China. Even a "child prodigy" may not always succeed. In the Song Dynasty alone, there were hundreds of "prodigies" recorded in writing. However, few people succeed in the end.
It is harmful to exaggerate the value of early intellectual development.
It is undeniable that early intellectual development is beneficial to children's future growth and development. But it should not be arbitrarily exaggerated. Arbitrary exaggeration will inevitably lead to forced "predatory" intellectual development.
There should be an analysis of the words of the above foreign experts. In fact, they are exaggerating the phenomenon of neglecting early education, thinking that they are warning themselves that they are "overcorrecting" and cannot take it seriously.
If, as makarenko said, 90% of education is completed before the age of five, and as Montessori said, three years old is a person's life, then, primary, secondary and university education is unnecessary? Lifelong education is "gilding the lily".
Moreover, the early education they emphasize is not "literacy" or "arithmetic", but the all-round development of body and mind. As Pavlov said, "it is two days late to start education three days after birth." Obviously, this does not mean "literacy" or "arithmetic".
However, in recent years, some people take the words of these foreigners as the "theoretical basis", advocate and publicize the "early educational determinism" everywhere, and promote the "child prodigy education" with literacy as the main content. This is unscientific and irresponsible. Parents should not believe it.
