I watched Using Positive Psychology to Improve Students' Performance during the holiday. This book only reads the title. As a teacher, it seems that I will focus on "improving my grades", but in fact, what I feel in the process of reading is to educate and guide students with positive psychology, which is far more important in personality than the numbers on the test paper. Later, I saw this book on the Internet, also called "School-based Plan for Character Education", and I thought it was more appropriate.

The authors of this book are famous British educational psychologists Tina Rey and Ruth Conwill, who have rich experience in clinical psychotherapy for teenagers and their parents. This is a masterpiece of positive psychology applied to teaching practice. This book introduces the relationship between the happiness of the educated and education from the psychological point of view, and also gives rich educational resources, which are both informative and practical.

Researchers have found that happiness is not the only feature of success, but it is closely related to a person's ability to thrive and succeed. Studies have confirmed that the relationship between education and happiness is complementary. Education can make people happier, and happiness in turn can make people gain more from education. Therefore, this book is more like an educational strategy to educate students to shape their character, guide them to behave correctly and cultivate good thinking patterns.

How does happiness come from and how does it promote the improvement of students' grades? According to the content of this book, I summarized the following points.

Perfect action. Happy people share the common characteristics of human virtues and high-quality character, and these advantages are established through actions. Aristotle once said: Heroic people are heroes because they have done heroic things. Only when a person knows how to do a good job and practices it, will he have a strong sense of participation and feel the meaning of life.

Positive emotions. The word "social contagion" in the mouth of positive psychologists means that emotions will spread from person to person, and optimism and negative emotions will spread rapidly within the group. Fox Edith believes that schools should focus on the advantages of students, so as to build an environment where everyone supports each other and grows together. In other words, educators should pay attention to the positive energy guidance and high-quality contact methods of the school and class atmosphere, enhance the positive emotions of the educated, and never pass negative and negative energy on to students.

Character strengths. Charter public schools in the United States, especially those participating in the "knowledge is power" project, have fully demonstrated the powerful advantages of their so-called "character education" through their own success. Positive psychologists have investigated the major cultures and religions in the past 3000 years and identified some core virtues rooted in them. Finally, six universal virtues are identified: wisdom, courage, love, justice, temperance and Excellence. Psychologists believe that the value of these personality advantages is not only the road to a "happy life", but also very meaningful.

Simple habits. William james, an American philosopher and psychologist, believes that the so-called virtue and character strengths in people's mouths are actually simple habits. The duty of educators should be to "monitor" teenagers to realize automation and habituation as soon as possible, and try their best to develop beneficial behavior habits. The power of habit is enormous. There is no difference between good students and bad students mentioned in the book. Only students with good habits and bad habits should be masters of habits rather than servants. Once good habits are formed, it is easier for us to implement them.

The book emphasizes that happiness (the technical term of "happiness") is so important because it can not only make people feel great, but also promote integration with the outside world. It makes individuals healthier, work harder and feel more integrated with family, friends and the whole community. More and more evidence shows that happiness not only makes our life full of meaning, but also is a powerful preventive and therapeutic drug. Howard gardner, a professor at Harvard University, pointed out that IQ is only one of several kinds of intelligence possessed by human beings. As a school or an educator, we should learn to firmly believe that intelligence is malleable, as are personality and habits, which will eventually be put into action. The happiness of the school and the construction of character still need our constant thinking and exploration.
