Zhejiang University, referred to as "Zhejiang University", is located in Hangzhou, a paradise on earth. Qiushi Academy, formerly known as 1897, is one of the earliest modern institutions of higher learning founded by China people themselves. 1928 was renamed as National Zhejiang University. During the Republic of China, under the leadership of Zhu Kezhen, Zhejiang University rose to be one of the highest universities in the Republic of China, and was praised as "Oriental Cambridge" by Needham, a British scholar, and ushered in the most glorious period in the 100-year history of Zhejiang University. Zhu Kezhen, the old president, became the greatest person in the history of Zhejiang University because of his historical contribution, and established the motto of "seeking truth" and the classical Chinese "School Song of Zhejiang University" for Zhejiang University.
Zhejiang University, affiliated to the Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China (PRC), is one of the first seven "2 1 1 Project" and the first nine "985 Project" national key universities in China. It is a member of the Nine Universities Alliance, the China University Presidents Association, the World University Alliance and the Pacific Rim University Alliance. It is also a pilot university for the reform of the "Excellent Doctoral Education and Training Plan" and "Excellent Agricultural and Forestry Talents Education and Training Plan" of the Ministry of Education.
