Professor Joseph Rey 1807 was born in Ohio County, Virginia, USA. When he was a child, he was educated in a local school and got excellent grades. /kloc-started his teaching career at the age of 0/6. 1825, went to Franklin College to study medicine with Professor Joel Martin. 1828 entered Ohio medical college after graduation, 183 1 graduated. After graduating from college, he found a job as a teacher at Woodward Middle School in Cincinnati and began to teach mathematics. 1836, Ohio judicial authorities allowed Woodward Middle School to upgrade from high school to Cincinnati Wood College, and Rey became a professor at the college. 185 1 year, the school became a public high school, and Lei served as the principal until his death.
Lei's most outstanding contribution is his series of mathematics textbooks, which are famous for it. This set of math textbooks, together with the American Language Reader written by his colleague McGaffey at Wood College, has been used as a Chinese and math textbook in American schools. In the past 50 years, tens of thousands of schools in the United States have used these two sets of textbooks, and the cumulative sales volume has exceeded 654.38+0.22 billion copies, which has had a great impact on American education.
Professor Rey also played a great role in the vocational training of teachers in Ohio. He helped to establish the Western Cultural Center and Vocational Teachers College, and passed on good teaching skills and experience to teachers. He joined the Ohio Teachers' Association and served as the chairman at 1853. In addition, he served as the deputy editor-in-chief of Ohio Education magazine.
