Minbei Vocational and Technical College was established in 2004 with the approval of the provincial government and sponsored by Nanping Municipal People's Government. The college was formerly known as Jianyang Normal School, Nanping Economic and Trade School and Nanping Amateur University. Now it is an advanced unit of employment and entrepreneurship in Fujian Province, a construction unit of "high-level professional group" project in Fujian Province, a business incubator base for college graduates in Fujian Province, a civilized campus in Nanping City and a safe unit in Nanping City.

The college has five departments, including education department, design department, management department, information department and food department, with 9 169 students and 222 faculty members. There are 20 higher vocational majors, including 1 at the provincial level, 1 at the provincial level, 2 at the provincial level as demonstration majors, 8 at the provincial level as pilot majors for the reform of dual-talent training mode, 2 at the provincial level as pilot majors for modern apprenticeships and 2 at the provincial level as pilot majors for the reform of innovation and entrepreneurship education. The college has continuously deepened the teaching reform, continuously improved the quality of personnel training and continuously strengthened the cultivation of students' professional skills. The employment rate of graduates in recent two sessions has reached more than 93%, and the satisfaction of graduates' employers has reached more than 96%. In the innovation and entrepreneurship competition, 16 projects won the gold, silver and bronze awards for innovation and entrepreneurship of provincial and municipal college students in the past two years.
