After reading the book The Secret of the First Education in Finland, I have some thoughts. Finland, a small country with millions of people, is known as "the most powerful country in education". The children here have good grades, strong creativity and can grow up happily. How did this happen?
One is about school education. In Finland, they believe that the purpose of education is not to compete, but to awaken themselves. What if some children don't study well and have no artistic expertise? They will answer: It doesn't matter, we should still let children find their own strength, which may be fair, creative, ambitious, good at teamwork, kind, persistent, curious, compassionate or caring.
Protect children's personality and awaken everyone's inner strength, instead of talking about heroes by scores. This reminds me of our school's star card evaluation, which is similar to Finland's educational concept: let every child take turns to be a hero.
The second is about family education. There is such a sentence in the book: "Should life be a marathon or a 100-meter sprint that only cares about winning at the starting line?"
There is a poem that says, "Educating children is like taking a snail for a walk." Slow down, slow down again, not only pay attention to the 100-meter sprint at the start, but also understand and accompany. Before the child 10 years old, even if we spend one or two years on the cultivation of children's habits and let the children go further and further on the road of "self-discipline", the children will have sustained motivation and interest in various things in the long marathon.
In Finland, parents don't worry about doing homework with their children, because teachers don't leave too much homework for their children, but leave time for them to do what they like. For example, learning architecture courses will help children understand the basic principles of architecture, enhance their aesthetic feeling and learn how to appreciate and understand architecture.
If the children do their homework well, the teacher will also give them a "jailbreak card". What's the escape card for? The next time a child doesn't want to do his homework, he can use this escape card to exercise this privilege. This reminds me of the "independent homework" in our school. Students in grade four and above can choose according to their own learning situation, choose full autonomy, semi-autonomy, or add autonomy, and say "no" to homework they don't like, which gives children the right to choose; Similarly, children in grades one to three can also "avoid doing homework" under the guidance of their parents, with light workload and full happiness for children and parents. This is exactly what we should do to improve the quality and reduce the burden.
The road to education is long. "The road is long, and I will go up and down." Let's work together and make continuous progress on the road of education and teaching.
