1976 graduated from Hunan university majoring in automobile design and manufacturing. 198 1 Chongqing university graduated with a master's degree in solid mechanics. 1982 went to study in the university of Tokyo, 1987 graduated from department of mechanical engineering of the university of Tokyo with a doctor of engineering.

1988 promoted to professor. 1989, director of engineering mechanics department, Chongqing university. From the end of 1989 to the end of 199 1 99, he served as an associate professor at the Center for Advanced Science and Technology Research of the University of Tokyo. 1992, director of the scientific research department of Chongqing University, and enjoyed the special allowance of the State Council in the same year. 1993 as vice president of Chongqing university, and was awarded as doctoral supervisor by the State Council Academic Degrees Committee in the same year. He was the president of Shantou University and Guangdong University of Technology. 2011August to present, President of Guangdong Institute of Technology.

He has been engaged in teaching and scientific research in the fields of mechanics and mechanical engineering for a long time. He has undertaken more than one project 10, such as National Natural Science Foundation, Fok Ying Tung Young Teachers Fund, Key Tracking Project of Excellent Young Teachers Fund of State Education Commission, National Defense Science and Technology Pre-research Fund, and a large number of international and domestic scientific research cooperation projects. The first winner won the second prize of the National Education Achievement Award, the second prize of the Science and Technology Progress Award of the Ministry of Education, and the second prize of the National Defense Science and Technology Pre-research Fund Project of China Academy of Engineering Physics. He has published more than 100 articles in academic journals at home and abroad. There are 16 graduate students who have obtained doctor's degrees in engineering, among whom 3 have completed postdoctoral work and many have obtained master's degrees in engineering. He is currently a member of the discipline evaluation team of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, a member of the Science and Technology Committee of the Ministry of Education, a vice chairman of the Guangdong Association for Science and Technology, a member of the evaluation committee established by Guangdong universities, a deputy director of the Education Committee of China theoretical and applied mechanics Institution, a vice chairman of Guangdong Mechanical Engineering Society, a vice chairman of Guangdong Higher Education Society, a decision-making consultant of Guangzhou Municipal Government, and an editorial board member of Science, Applied Mathematics and Mechanics and Journal of Mechanical Engineering. Professor Zhang's research field spans engineering and management disciplines, including industrial engineering, project management, strategy and plan management, human resource management and other fields, and has achieved fruitful results in theoretical research and practical exploration.
