Hubei Institute of Fine Arts is the only professional art college in Central China and one of the eight national art colleges. Our college was formerly a private Wuchang Art College founded by 1920. Wuchang Art College is the first private art education school in modern China, one of the three earliest art colleges in China (Beiping Art College, Hangzhou Art College and Wuchang Art College), and one of the cradles of modern higher art education in China. 1937- 1945 During the Anti-Japanese War, the school moved to Jiangjin, Sichuan, and returned to Wuhan from 1946 after the victory of the Anti-Japanese War. By 1949, Wuchang Art College had a diploma of 29 years, which made great contributions to the establishment and development of modern art education in China from the perspective of talent reserve and educational inheritance, and also laid a solid foundation for the sustainable development of art education in New China, especially in Central and South China.

1949 Wuchang Art College was merged into Zhongyuan University, and then merged into Hubei Education College and Huazhong Normal University. After several changes, 1977 restored its original school name-Hubei Art Institute, which was divided into two parts: art and music. From 65438 to 0985, with the approval of the State Education Commission, the Academy of Fine Arts was established independently, named "Hubei Academy of Fine Arts", which formed a new pattern of contemporary higher art education in China and opened a new chapter in the rise of our institute in the field of contemporary higher art education.

In the past 90 years, especially in the teaching practice of reform and opening up, the college has always adhered to the school motto of "respecting morality, being diligent and sensitive to beauty" and the artistic direction of "serving socialism and serving the people", serving the society, integrating into the society and guiding the society, which has become a consistent spiritual inheritance of our college. With discipline construction as the leading factor, education as the foundation, advanced school-running guiding ideology, eclectic academic spirit and inclusive teaching concept, the college has trained outstanding artistic talents from generation to generation.
