Pedagogical problems and discussion of the oppressed

Date: 92.5. 10(W6)

Venue: Conference Room, College of Education, Donghai University, Taichung

Shen: I have some questions about the translation part. The third foundation of dialogue: high trust in people. Hope refers to the hope of human nature, not human belief. There are five points in the new edition: love, humanity, faith, hope and critical thinking.

Liao: There are both hopes and beliefs, so it should be five foundations.

Zhao: The second revolutionary leader mentioned here that education is not "A is B" or "A is about B", but "A brings B". Among them, A is about B teacher Liao translated as "left and right". I wonder how you understand this part. I translated it as "about", which means that education is not what A does for B, nor what A does for B, but what A and B do together.

Explanation: Both for and about are unilateral, and only with is completed simultaneously.

Huang: What echoes with everyone here is that real education should be the cooperation between teachers and students, and should be completed together.

Liao: That's right.

Shen: A should give preference to boys and charity education to B. About objectification, turning it into something in teaching. With the means of learning together, the power relationship between teachers and students should be adjusted.

Liao: During the inquiry, it seems that students can't get in? Can't see the object?

Shen: This means that participants should be involved. Basically, researchers have the right to participate and must be admitted. Then, from the perspective of methodology, it is necessary to analyze, especially the indispensable behavior of the profession.

Shen: Word is a key. Continuing the previous question-placement and dialogue, from the perspective of methodology and epistemology, the first thing to review is word, because the most important tool of dialogue is word. However, words don't want to be reduced to symbols. Word should have two attributes: introspection and action. Linguistically speaking, it has signifier and signified, and it must exist at the same time. We should understand that the real world will form several symbol systems through naming and naming process, and understand how the real reality is constructed through symbols from the inside of symbols. When we reflect and give a new perspective, problems will naturally arise, and then we will change our interpretation and produce naming actions. How many horns does a unicorn have, or how many feet does a unicorn have? Basically, this question is meaningless, because no one has seen a real unicorn; Its name and the corresponding reality are problematic. For example, when we ask westerners how wooden fish is made, we know that wooden fish is not a fish at all, but from the interpretation of the name, we will mistakenly think that wooden fish is a fish and think about this question, but in fact this question is meaningless. Therefore, the real society constructed by symbols will make us ask some so-called questions, but they are all meaningless questions. Therefore, when asking questions, the first thing to consider is words, and then the relationship between words and reality, so there is a way to reflect.

Yu: In response to what I just said, once our senior bought a bunch of snacks home. Her son, who was in the second grade of primary school, said that these snacks were all "imported", but in fact these snacks were not imported from abroad, so she asked him why he said so. His son replied: "These snacks will all enter my mouth in the future, so they are all" imported ". The word "import" means trade to ordinary people, but it has a different interpretation to Xue Jie's son. In addition, last week, our foreign bride literacy class (Jinan University) taught the lesson "Walking into the Kitchen". One student actually wrote down all the words to be taught first. I asked her how to write it first. She replied that she wrote these words first because they were familiar and simple. So when we talk about word, if the word has an impact on his life, it has different meanings.

Shen: The first two chapters talked about dialogue and raising questions, and the third chapter talked about how his methodology and epistemology were carried out. First of all, you must have word as a tool for dialogue. When word can represent the world, it has reflection, that is to say, it can represent the world. This reflects the difference between humans and animals. The world has actually shaped the world through the reproduction and reorganization of words. Without reflection, there will be the problem of ideological reproduction, copying the upper ideology. To understand what dialogical is, we can transform it with five elements, such as love and confidence, otherwise it is just a language philosophy. Therefore, freire's "dialogue" has a special definition. It is not as simple as talking between teachers and students in class, but reflection and action. People are different from animals because they can represent the world. So this should be the construction of freire's methodology.

Zhao: freire's understanding of education was formed through his contacts with farmers.

Huang: Dialogue is a normative dialogue, which is different from ordinary communication. When I read this chapter, the most difficult part is the "word" part on the first page of this chapter. He mentioned that words have two aspects: reflection and action. I wonder which language school this is from.

Shen: This is not linguistic. From the perspective of pure linguistics, there are grammar and semantics. There are several schools of linguistics, such as thinking that symbols correspond to real things and that signifiers correspond to signified. But when using word, different situations have different meanings. For example, I told Mr. Huang Chongxian that you are a bad person, which means moral condemnation. But if couples say this sentence, the meaning is different. In fact, the relationship between discourse and the world has many different aspects, but for freire, the two dimensions of discourse, action and reflection are dialogic.

Liao: word, for example, said, "We want to be healthy and Taiwan Province Province to be beautiful", but there was no action. This is just a beautiful sentence. But in fact, such a sentence implies reflection and thinking about what kind of environment we want.

Huang: Generally speaking, when we talk about words, we don't give this concept a great connotation, which seems to be an unbearable weight in life.

Zhao: That's because freire is facing illiterate farmers, so he wants to emphasize the importance of writing in that context. He wants farmers to change the status quo through literacy, so he puts special emphasis on words.

Shen: This is partly because he wrote this book in the 1970s when philosophy of language prevailed, so he quoted it as the basis of explanation.

Huang: The book says that "telling a truth is to transform the world", which is too heavy. Don't we always talk about action and reflection? ! If we tell the truth, we are changing the world.

Shen: So talking to freire is no joke.

Yu: In the past, we called the aborigines "Qingfan", and they were in an unequal state. Now when they are called aborigines, they can also be treated equally. For example, the mage once mentioned that foreign brides should be changed to "new immigrants". Is this a kind of naming?

Huang: Yes, the aborigines were the name rectification movement in the 1960s, because of the inequality behind the language response structure.

Shen: Actually, there is an ideology behind the name-correcting movement, and the naming process is an obsession, that is, I impose my knowledge and understanding of the world on you.

Interpretation: It takes a long time to reflect before the action comes out.

Shen: Does the development of adult education follow freire's methodology? Has this methodology been verified after 30 years? Is this method universally applicable?

Wen Ying: Lucy Tian from Shixin University and several graduate students and middle school teachers formed a workshop, which was conducted by Freire method. But in questioning education, teachers are at a loss because they can't get the answer. Freire himself claimed that his things were non-transferable, "here and now"; He asked everyone not to repeat what he had done, but to consider the situation of falling pulse. Researchers and participants also reported that they didn't know much about Freire.

Liao: As freire said, everything should proceed from reality. So you can practice in any field, but the premise is to fit the pulse condition.
