The Central Academy of Fine Arts is the only art college directly under the Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China (PRC). There are eight professional branches, namely, School of Modeling, School of Traditional Chinese Painting, School of Humanities, School of Architecture, School of Design, School of Urban Design, School of Experimental Art, School of Art Management and Education, School of Plastic Arts, School of Continuing Education and affiliated secondary art schools.

The college recruits secondary school students (attached middle schools), junior college students (adult education), undergraduates, master students, doctoral students and various advanced students every year. By the end of 20 13, there were 572 on-the-job faculty members, more than 4,700 undergraduate and graduate students, and more than 0/00 international students from more than ten countries. The teaching and research area of the college covers a total area of 495 mu, with a total construction area of 247,000 square meters.
