Since 1949 was founded in People's Republic of China (PRC), the compilation of national textbooks has gone through 70 years. In this long time, the unified textbook has undergone four rounds of important revisions, which has played a decisive role in promoting the development of China's education, improving the quality of the people, building an educational power, and cultivating socialist builders and successors with all-round development in morality, intelligence, physique, beauty and labor.

Four rounds of important revisions

From the first revision 1949 to 1957, three sets of general textbooks were revised and re-edited. These textbooks have played an important role in the historical process of transforming the old society and building a new China.

National unified teaching material system

The central government and the education department have established the general policy of unifying the national textbook system and formulated a unified national syllabus or curriculum standard. At the same time, a specialized agency for compiling and reviewing unified teaching materials has been set up, equipped with professional editors, and a unified publishing channel for teaching materials has been created nationwide.

Political ideology

Textbook compilation always adheres to the first principle of political ideology and always takes improving the quality and level of textbook compilation as its core task. It is an important part of state power and closely related to the development of socialist public ownership in China.

General teaching material

Unified textbooks, also known as "departmental textbooks" or "general textbooks", are textbooks compiled and examined by the state and the government under the guidance of a curriculum standard or syllabus, and published and used nationwide.

New journey

Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the central government has paid unprecedented attention to the work of teaching materials. In important documents such as "China Education Modernization 2035", the central government clearly proposed to improve the national textbook system, and emphasized the principles of overall planning, integration of unification and separation, and classified guidance. This indicates that the construction of teaching materials in China has entered a new journey.
