Tianshui City, formerly known as Qin Zhou and Shangguan, is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Gansu Province, located in the southeast of Gansu Province, between east longitude104 35' ~106 44' and north latitude 34 05' ~ 35/kloc-0'.

Tianshui City is a sub-central city of Gansu Province, a sub-core city of Guanzhong Plain urban agglomeration and an important node city of the Silk Road Economic Belt approved by the Gansu Provincial People's Government.

As of April 2022, Tianshui has jurisdiction over 2 districts and 5 counties, with a total area of 1.43 million square kilometers. By the end of 20021,the resident population of Tianshui was 2,956,500.

Tianshui City is named after the legend of "Tianhe Water Injection", with a history of about 8,000 years of civilization, represented by Fuxi culture, Dadiwan culture, pre-Qin culture, Maijishan grottoes culture and the ancient battlefield culture of the Three Kingdoms.

Tianshui is an excellent tourist city in China. By April 2022, there were 228 tourist attractions in Tianshui. In 2022, the regional GDP of Tianshui City was 8138.8 billion yuan, an increase of 5.3% over the previous year at constant prices.

In the Western Zhou Dynasty, Tianshui was once a branch of the descendants of Boyi, an important official in Yu Xia, and later moved to Xihuang (later named Xiduoge Mountain). During the Fei Zi period, Tianshui became a vassal of the Zhou Dynasty royal family and was named the King of Qin. Therefore, the State of Qin established the State of Qin with Tianshui as the center, which was among the best countries in the Spring and Autumn Period.

After Qin extended to Shandong, in the ninth year of King Zhuang of Zhou Dynasty (688 BC), Qin Wugong established Jixian County, the earliest county-level administrative system county in China.
