The school was founded in August 1979, in order to enable all primary school graduates of Kuancheng Commune to enter junior high school. Because there was already County No.1 Middle School in the county at that time, the school was named "Kuancheng No.2 Middle School". In May 2002, with the approval of Chengde Education Bureau and Ethnic and Religious Affairs Bureau, the school was renamed as "Kuancheng Manchu Autonomous County No.2 Middle School" and was designated as "a pilot school for developing education with ethnic characteristics". Its main business purpose is to implement compulsory junior high school education and promote the development of basic education and junior high school education (related social services).
