What is educational research?

Educational scientific research is a creative cognitive activity with educational scientific theory as a weapon, phenomena occurring in the field of education as a phenomenon, and the purpose of exploring educational laws. In a word, educational theory is used to study educational phenomena, explore unknown new laws and solve new problems and situations. Educational scientific research covers a wide range, including all macro and micro issues related to education.

Educational scientific research is a purposeful, planned, continuous and systematic exploration activity. The commonly used research methods are observation, investigation, experiment, summary (traceability) and literature. What kind of results will be formed by any method. Common educational scientific research achievements include: educational investigation report, educational investigation report, educational experiment report, educational experience summary report, educational paper or treatise. Steps of education and scientific research: making research plans; Carry out research work and write research reports.

The research on primary and secondary education is a creative cognitive activity for people to understand the objects, phenomena and laws in the field of primary and secondary education. Primary and secondary education research is a creative cognitive activity to reveal the essence, discover the laws and create theories in the field of primary and secondary education. The study of primary and secondary education not only solves the problem of understanding the objective world, but also directly relates to the creation of a new world and the construction of a new system of primary and secondary education. The so-called subject is a research project established from the problems specified in the research direction. The topic is not just a name, it should embody the research.

The so-called educational research means that researchers use educational theory to study valuable educational phenomena and use corresponding scientific research methods to carry out creative cognitive activities to explore educational laws purposefully and planned. For example, a primary school teacher found that the first-grade students copied new words more than once, and the burden was heavy, so he conducted an experiment of "comparing the effects of copying four times with eight times". It turns out that copying four times is the best. Then he wrote a research report to demonstrate "reducing the burden"

From the above definitions and examples of educational research, we can see that educational research has the following characteristics:

First, educational scientific research is a purposeful and planned scientific research activity, which is different from the routine education and teaching work stipulated by superiors. Purposeful and planned education requires imagination and advanced consciousness, so it is a research activity.

Second, educational research is an innovative activity. It can't follow the path taken by others, repeat what others have done, and solve problems that have not been solved by predecessors. What it will eventually put forward is new knowledge, new experience, new methods and new theories.

Third, education and scientific research should rely on certain theories and methods. We should not only engage in scientific research, but also rely on certain theories to guide, expand and deepen our understanding of problems, and at the same time choose appropriate scientific research methods. This method cannot be limited to experimental methods. We can also use observation, investigation, summary and case analysis.

Fourthly, educational scientific research is an activity to explore laws, which requires researchers to reach a regular and essential understanding of the research results of the educational and teaching phenomena they study, and its research results have a universal role in promoting and guiding.

Because of this, all levels of education departments in China encourage and attach importance to teachers' educational research. The Education Law points out that the state supports, encourages and organizes educational scientific research, promotes educational scientific achievements and promotes the improvement of educational quality. The Outline of Education Reform and Development in China also clearly requires: "Encourage and support schools, teachers and educators to actively carry out reform experiments" and "every educator should actively participate in educational scientific research".
