outline

Professor Guixing Zhang's academic achievements mainly include Lao She's Chronicle, Lao She's Textual Research, Lao She and His Second Hometown, Lao She's Seventy Years' Review, Lao She's Essays on Literature and Art, and Lao She's Notes on Old Style Poetry.

Professor Guixing Zhang blazed a new trail in the study of Lao She's materials and works, and made remarkable achievements. The Lao She Research Series compiled by him is planned to publish monograph 10, and seven books have been published-Lao She Chronicle, Lao She's Textual Research, Lao She's Notes on Old Style Poems, Lao She's Works Translation and Cataloguing, Lao She's Literary Works, Lao She and His Second Hometown and Revision of Lao She's Complete Works. Among them, the 740,000-word Chronicle of Lao She (Volume I and Volume II) is a representative academic achievement of Professor Zhang in his early years. The materials were prepared from 1978, the first draft was completed from 1986, and then officially published from 1987. Lao She Chronicle consumed Professor Zhang's energy for 20 years. In the past 20 years, he has visited dozens of libraries and archives all over the country, consulted newspapers and magazines of different historical periods page by page, and buried himself in old materials to take notes and make cards, which is beyond measure selfless. It can be seen that Lao She Chronicle reveals the rigorous attitude of scholars behind the simple style of writing.
