According to the data provided by the All-China Women's Federation, the number of left-behind children in rural areas in China has reached 20 million, and it is still growing. In some rural labor exporting provinces, the proportion of left-behind children in the total number of local children has reached 18% to 22%.
The survey shows that some left-behind children are facing outstanding survival and development problems because their parents are not around their children for a long time. The first is the life of left-behind children. Due to the lack of good life care from parents, some left-behind children are seriously undernourished and their health is greatly damaged.
The second is the education of left-behind children. Parents go out to work, some left-behind children increase farm work and housework, and their academic performance declines. Some of them also play truant and drop out of school because they are tired of learning.
The third is the psychological problems of left-behind children. Due to the lack of affection, children lack emotional and psychological care, people to talk to and ask for help, and unwilling or too little contact with the outside world, some left-behind children show personality characteristics such as closed heart, apathy and withdrawn behavior, and have personality defects and psychological obstacles to varying degrees.
The fourth is the moral behavior of left-behind children. Due to the lack of family education and moral restraint, some left-behind children have not developed good living habits and moral conduct, which leads to behavioral deviation, and the cases of left-behind children violating laws and disciplines are on the rise.
The fifth is the safety of left-behind children. The All-China Women's Federation's survey of rural left-behind children in 12 provinces and cities shows that some left-behind children are often bullied by classmates and neighbors because their parents are not around. In some places, there have also been vicious cases of rape of left-behind girls.
