Zhao Yun was a scholar-bureaucrat in the countryside in his early years, with a good educational background and martial arts. At the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty and the beginning of the year, he followed Liu Bei, a childhood friend, to Zhang Yi, the leader of mountain bandits, showing outstanding military courage. Later, Zhao Yun traveled around with Liu Bei in order to resist wars such as the Yellow Scarf Uprising.
Zhao Yun is most praised for his heroic performance on the battlefield. With his extraordinary riding skills and martial arts, he defeated many enemy troops and brought morale to the Shu-Han army. According to records, he fought seven wars and won seven times, and was known as the hero of "seven in and seven out".
Zhao Yun took part in many important battles, the most famous of which was Battle of Red Cliffs. In this battle, he led the Shu army to help Sun Quan defeat the allied forces of Wu Dong and Cao Wei, which laid an important foundation for the resistance of Shu Han.
However, Zhao Yun's record is not limited to Battle of Red Cliffs. He also participated in many battles, such as the Battle of Xinye and the Battle of Dingjun Mountain, and made many contributions to Shu Han.
Zhao Yun not only performed well on the battlefield, but also showed noble character and loyalty in peacetime. He has always been loyal to Liu Bei and Liu Chan, and to the country and the monarch. According to records, before Zhao Yun died, he asked Liu Bei to seek an official position for his children, but Liu Bei declined because of his young age. Zhao Yun was deeply moved and entrusted the child to Liu Bei's wife.
In 229 AD, Zhao Yun died of illness at the age of 6 1. His death caused deep condolences from Shu Han court and Liu Bei. Liu Bei posthumously awarded him as a general riding a chariot, held a funeral for him, and built a temple in Zhao Yun's hometown to worship him.
