1. Diagnosis: Understand the hypnotized person's motivation and needs, ask him about his existing views on hypnosis, answer his doubts about hypnosis, and ensure that he knows what will happen during hypnosis without unreasonable expectations. Many times, hypnotists may spend some time making a brief introduction to hypnosis, because most people know little about hypnosis, and this little understanding is mostly misunderstanding.
Second, the Induction stage (induction): the hypnotist uses language guidance to make the other party enter a hypnotic state. Generally speaking, the commonly used induction techniques include gradual relaxation, eye gaze, deep breathing, imagination guidance, counting, arm floating, deformation camouflage and so on.
When I was doing hypnotherapy in the psychological counseling room, almost all stage induction was guided by language, and props were rarely used, that is to say, a few words could put people into hypnosis. So, once in a while, a case will think it is impossible to be so simple and ask me why I don't take out my pocket watch or jewel necklace and dangle it in front of his eyes, because this is the hypnotist in his mind. If Keith really thinks the only way to hypnotize him, then I will not hesitate to take out the crystal necklace to hypnotize him. Fortunately, I have only used it once so far.
Third, deepening: guide the hypnotized person from a mild hypnotic state to a deeper hypnotic state. The commonly used deepening techniques include lowering the arm, counting, going down the stairs, taking the elevator and crossing the tunnel. In addition to these common skills, new skills are often improvised at this stage. Hypnotists have as many new skills as they have imagination.
4. Cure: To treat the hypnotized person as needed, the hypnotist needs to have a good background in psychotherapy and psychopathology, and it is best to dabble in religion and philosophy. I think this stage is the most fascinating part of hypnotherapy. You never know what ball will hit you, but when you hit a home run skillfully, it will really make you happy for days.
Conclusion: Let the hypnotized person return to the normal state of consciousness from hypnosis, ensure that he has a clear memory of the whole treatment process, and give appropriate hints after hypnosis to help him feel good after ending hypnosis and strengthen the curative effect, usually by counting.
