"Experimental Plan for Training Top Students in Basic Subjects", referred to as "Everest Plan", is a talent training plan launched by the state in response to "Qian Xuesen's question", aiming at training China's own academic masters. The plan was launched in 2009 by the Ministry of Education in conjunction with the Central Organization Department and the Ministry of Finance.
In the process of formulating the principles of the Outline of the National Medium-and Long-term Education Reform and Development Plan, the Ministry of Education has made preparations for the cultivation of top-notch innovative talents in basic disciplines, and selected five disciplines of mathematics, science, culture, information and health as the first pilots in 20 universities in China, striving for a breakthrough in the cultivation of innovative talents.
The plan will start with experiments in five basic disciplines, such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology and computer, dynamically select particularly outstanding students every year, equip first-class teachers, provide first-class learning conditions, innovate training methods, and build a special channel for training top-notch talents in basic science. The state has set up special funds, which are mainly used to hire first-class teachers, including foreign high-level teachers in related disciplines and domestic first-class teachers to teach and serve as tutors.
Providing scholarships, international exchanges, scientific research and training funds; Create a first-class academic environment and atmosphere, and strive to make the students supported by the program grow into leaders in related basic science fields.
