Liu Yi is the hero of Li's legendary novel Liu Yichuan in Tang Dynasty. According to this legend, Liu Yi is from Hunan. He came last in the exam to Beijing. When he passed Jingyang on his way home, he met a shepherd woman who claimed to be the daughter of the Dragon King of Dongting Lake. After marriage, she was abused and asked Liu Yi to send a book to the Dragon King of Dongting Lake to save her disaster. Liu Yi did so, and the Dragon King was willing to betroth the Dragon Lady to him in return. At that time, he declined, saying, "No one has the ambition to do justice until he kills his son-in-law and takes his wife. However, after he lost his wife twice, he finally married the dragon girl and became a water god.
In Yuan Dynasty, Shang Zhongxian wrote Liu Yichuan's zaju with this theme. In the Qing Dynasty, Kong Renshang said in Peach Blossom Fan Li Xiu: "The war of words made me incompetent; Liu Yi's book, why not go to sea? " How did Liu Yi deliver this book? Really going to sea? In Li's legendary novel, he went to Dongting Lake with a letter, and found a big dried tangerine peel according to the method of dragon girl, and "it was easy to get it on the tree, and it stopped after three strikes." Then someone appeared in the waves and showed him the way to the Dragon Palace. Yuan Zaju said: "There is a temple at the mouth of Dongting Lake, and there is a kumquat tree next to the incense table. The villagers call it Sheju. You can knock this golden hairpin on its tree and someone will come out from there. 」
Both versions have only one "country". When the tree rings, someone will come out to lead the way. However, in today's Junshan of Dongting Lake, there is a big orange, and next to this tree, there is a well. Locals say this is Liu Yijing, also known as Orange Well, the well where Liu Yi handed books. Liu Yi entered the Dragon Palace through this well. That's great, right? Hunan people associate the story of Liu Yi with a well and imagination, making it a sightseeing well with cultural and historical value.
