Kodaly (1882- 1967) is a Hungarian composer and music educator. He is one of the most famous figures in Hungarian music in the 20th century. Representative works include Hungarian Chant, Shaikhli's Spinning Machine and Variations on Peacock.

"Kelvin gesture" is an integral part of Kodaly's music teaching method. This gesture was initiated by John Cowen (1816–1880) in 1970s, so it is called "Kelvin gesture".

Gestures represent seven different roll names through seven different gestures and different high and low positions in front of the body, which reflects the high and low relationship of the singing voice in space. It is a form of body language to adjust and communicate pitch and intonation between teachers and students.

Kelvin gesture

In music reading teaching, we don't just emphasize how high this note should be sung and how low that note should be sung, but use Kelvin gestures appropriately. Because of different notes, different gestures are used, and different gestures are supplemented by different spatial positions, which can remind students of the roll call and relative pitch of notes and visualize the high notes that students find elusive to some extent.

In the usual teaching, let students learn to sing simple scales with the change of hand shape and the adjustment of hand position; When teaching new songs, let students make gestures to read music under the guidance of the teacher's piano sound, so that students are very interested in singing and moving, so that the fear of reading music is weakened unconsciously and the accuracy of intonation is greatly improved.
