During the period of 1928, at the initiative of Cai Yuanpei, President of Academia Sinica, psychologist Tang Yue was responsible for the establishment of the Institute of Psychology.

1929, the Institute of Psychology of Academia Sinica was formally established in Beiping, with Tang Yue as the first director. The address was first at No.35, Xinkai Road, Dongcheng, and then moved to Fangjiayuan 1, Dongcheng. In his early days, he mainly studied animal learning and neuroanatomy.
