China Academy of Fine Arts, the first comprehensive national art college in China, was originally directly under the Ministry of Education, and is now jointly established by the Ministry of Culture and Zhejiang Province.

The Central Academy of Fine Arts is the only art college directly under the Ministry of Education. Founded in April 1950, it was formed by the merger of the national Beiping Art College and the three art departments of North China University.
