Xi is the first batch of national historical and cultural cities announced by the State Council. More than ten dynasties established their capitals here in history. It is one of the four ancient capitals in China, one of the four ancient capitals in the world, and one of the capitals with the most dynasties, the longest time and the greatest influence in the history of China.
The geological structure of Xi 'an is divided into two units: Qinling geosyncline fold belt and North China platform. About 654.38+0.3 billion years ago, during the Yanshan Movement, a large fault occurred across the northern foot of Qinling Mountains. Since the Neogene about 3 million years ago, the neotectonic movement in the Qinling geosyncline fold belt south of the great fault has been extremely active, and the mountains have fallen sharply from north to south, creating the Qinling Mountains.
Xi 'an Plain belongs to warm temperate zone and semi-humid continental monsoon climate, with four distinct seasons: cold, warm, dry and wet. Winter is cold, windy, foggy and less rainy and snowy; Spring is warm, dry, windy and the climate is changeable; Summer is hot and rainy, drought is prominent, and there are many thunderstorms and strong winds; Autumn is cool, the temperature drops rapidly, and the autumn rain is obvious.
The natural vegetation in Xi 'an was not directly damaged by the Quaternary continental glaciers, but some tertiary ancient relict plant, such as Ginkgo biloba, Pistacia vera, Lianxiang and Majiazi, were still preserved. There are natural vegetation types such as alpine shrub meadow, coniferous forest, mixed coniferous and broad-leaved forest and deciduous broad-leaved forest in Qinling Mountains from high altitude to low altitude.
Xi 'an is located at the junction of the center of China's land map and China's central and western economic zone, which is the only way for the northwest to reach the cities of Central Plains, North China and East China. In the national regional economic layout, Xi is the largest western central city along the economic belt of China section of the New Eurasian Continental Bridge-Longhai-Lanxin Railway.
Xi 'an dialect is popular in Guanzhong and Northwest China, also known as "Bangzi" and "Bangzi". Shaanxi dialect is one of the central plains official dialects represented by Guanzhong dialect and xi 'an dialect, which is deeply influenced by Putonghua, but it still retains the usage of some archaic words.
