Lanzhou University is a comprehensive national key university directly under the Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China (PRC), directly under the central government, and is a vice-ministerial unit. It was jointly established by the State Bureau of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense and the Ministry of Education. It is a world-class university (Class A), a key construction university of "985 Project" and "21Project", and was selected into "Everest Plan", "Strong Foundation Plan" and "20 10/Project".

2. Lanzhou Jiaotong University

Lanzhou Jiaotong University, located in Lanzhou, the capital of Gansu Province, is a university jointly established by China Railway Corporation, State Railway Administration and Gansu Provincial People's Government. The Education and Training Plan for Outstanding Engineers of the Ministry of Education has been selected into universities, the Model School for Deepening Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Reform of the Ministry of Education, the Education Revitalization Plan for the Midwest of the Ministry of Education has supported universities, and high-level universities and "first-class disciplines" in Gansu Province have been built.

3. Northwest University for Nationalities

Northwest University for Nationalities, referred to as Northwest University for Nationalities, is located in Lanzhou City, Gansu Province. It is a full-time undergraduate college directly under the State Ethnic Affairs Commission, which is jointly established by the State Ethnic Affairs Commission, the Ministry of Education, China Academy of Sciences and Gansu Provincial People's Government. It is the first national university established after the founding of People's Republic of China (PRC).

4. Lanzhou University of Technology

Lanzhou University of Technology is a university jointly established by Gansu Provincial People's Government, Ministry of Education and State Bureau of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense. It is a high-level university and a "first-class discipline" construction university in Gansu Province. It has been selected into the national "Basic Capacity Building Project for Universities in the Midwest", the "Excellent Engineer Program" of the Ministry of Education, "11plan" and new engineering research and practice projects.

5. Northwest Normal University

Northwest Normal University, located in Lanzhou City, Gansu Province, is a key university jointly established by the Gansu Provincial People's Government and the Ministry of Education. Selected into 14 universities in the western region supported by the state, including the basic capacity building project of universities in the central and western regions, the excellent teacher training plan, the excellent engineer education and training plan, the academic innovation and intelligence introduction plan of universities, the Chinese education base of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, and the scholarship receiving institutions of the China government for overseas students in China.
