After Dayu succeeded to the throne, many countries in Jianghuai were dissatisfied with Yu. Therefore, Hao Tao sent many missions to Jianghuai to publicize Dayu's achievements: praising Lei Zhong and putting people first. It is said that Dayu was fearless, hardworking, fair and selfless, and devoted himself to eliminating troubles for the people and making them live and work in peace and contentment. Finally, Huaiyi was afraid of Wei Huaide and unanimously supported Dayu. Only then did Dayu rule peacefully, so Hao Tao made great contributions to the prosperity of China. However, because of this, he died before Yu died because of his excessive fatigue. It is said that Hao Tao lived to the age of 106. Because of his death, Yu gave up the throne to his eldest son, Boyi.

Gao Tao's tomb is a dome with a circumference of 97 meters and a height of 6.2 meters. The plane diameter of the tomb top is 4 meters. There is a Pistacia chinensis tree planted on it, which looks like a crown. There is an ancient Hao Tao tombstone written by Wu Kunxiu, Anhui envoy in Qing Dynasty.
