In 2022, the school was included in the university setting plan during the Tenth Five-Year Plan period by the Ministry of Education.

Baoji University of Arts and Science was founded in 1958, formerly known as Baoji University (undergraduate). 1963 was closed due to national economic difficulties, and 1975 was restored to Baoji Branch of Shaanxi Normal University (undergraduate). 1978 was named Baoji Normal University with the approval of the State Council, and 1992 was approved by the former State Education Commission.
