Gaoyou No.1 Primary School was founded in 1897 (the 23rd year of Guangxu). It's a century-old school.

Gaoyou No.1 Primary School (formerly Gaoyou Experimental Primary School in Jiangsu Province), with a history of one hundred years, pioneered the road of Gaoyou Primary School, higher primary school, girls' school, preschool education, junior middle school, junior normal school and public-run private assistance, which is the epitome of school education in Gaoyou area. Professor Shen, former president of the Hong Kong Cultural Association, and Professor Hua Yanyou, a famous sculpture artist, once taught here.
