What is universal education?
Universal ethics is a kind of moral consensus, moral attitude and value concern of human beings, and it is the promotion and development of the "common ground" of multi-ethnic ethical culture, which embodies the new moral value pursuit of modern human beings. We are concerned about the practical significance of human exploration of universal ethics, which marks the birth of a brand-new way of thinking, that is, global consciousness beyond the boundaries of countries and nations. Calling for the establishment of universal ethics is not only the practical need to solve global problems, but also reflects the profound consciousness of human responsibility and the moral consciousness of mankind as a whole. Universal ethics should not be the hegemony of some strong cultures, nor should it be the wishful arrogance of some weak cultures. Its formation is based on the overlapping consensus between cultures of various lineages and depends on equal dialogue and communication between them. It challenges all kinds of "cultural centralism", and what modern people emphasize is obviously the commonality and commonality of culture. As a new pursuit of moral value, universal ethics provides a unique cultural perspective for us to deeply reflect on traditional culture and traditional moral education and correctly position contemporary moral education in China. If we re-examine our previous school moral education from the perspective of global and human culture, then China's moral education has an obvious tendency of cultural centralism, that is, the excessive ideology of morality and the extreme political utilitarianism of moral education highlight the instrumental role of moral education, while ignoring or even ignoring its "value rationality" significance. As a result, moral education once became a vassal of political education, and the value orientation of education tended to be conservative, closed and autocratic, and it was impossible to engage in dialogue and exchange with different cultures in a democratic, equal and inclusive manner, which finally kept our moral education out of the tide of world modernization. Today, China has joined the WTO, and the pace of integration into the world modernization wave is accelerating. Moral education with the tendency of cultural centralism is facing unprecedented severe challenges. The commonality, consensus and compatibility of value orientation revealed by universal ethics have become the trend of contemporary world development, and new international and worldwide educational concepts and new horizons are being established. Therefore, school moral education in China should break through the narrow national cultural centralism, improve global awareness and establish global cultural values; To build a socialist moral education system with China characteristics, we must develop our nationality (characteristics) under the global consciousness, otherwise we may fall into the trap of cultural centralism again.
