The Hong Kong Institute of Education (HKIEd) is the only normal college among the eight universities in Hong Kong. Based on the 65-year inheritance of five former normal education colleges, it is the only one of the eight universities funded by the University Grants Committee that focuses on teacher training and professional development. The history of the school can be traced back to Geoffrey Northcote Teachers College (1939 renamed Geoffrey Northcote Education College). From 65438 to April 1994, the Hong Kong government merged Ge Haowen Institute of Education, grantham college of education Institute of Education, White Institute of Education, Hong Kong Industrial and Commercial Normal University and Institute of Language Education into the Hong Kong Institute of Education, and granted them full-time jobs to upgrade teacher education and professional training courses.

In the ranking of QS prestigious schools, the pedagogy of Hong Kong Institute of Education ranks 15 in the world and third in Asia.
