Xuzhou Normal University is a provincial-level high-level university under key construction in Jiangsu Province, the first batch of master's degree awarding units in China, the first batch of universities qualified to accept foreign students in China, and the first undergraduate university in northern Jiangsu. In 2004, he won an excellent grade in the evaluation of undergraduate teaching level organized by the Ministry of Education. The predecessor of the school is the Accelerated School for Demobilized Cadres, which was founded in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, 1952. Lieutenant General Liu Xiansheng was the first headmaster, and he made outstanding achievements. 1956 was approved by the State Council and transformed into a series of general higher education, and Jiangsu Normal University was established. 1958 The school moved north to Xuzhou, 1959 merged with Xuzhou Normal University to form Xuzhou Normal University, and began to recruit undergraduates in that year. In the early 1960s, the layout of colleges and universities in China was adjusted, and the beloved Premier Zhou Enlai instructed: "Xuzhou has a vast territory and should have a university", so the school was preserved. Since then, the school has taken root in northern Jiangsu, worked hard and gradually developed. 1989, Xuzhou second normal college, founded in 1984, was merged into our school. 1999, Xuzhou technical school, a technical secondary school directly under the Ministry of Coal, was merged into our school. 1996, approved by the former State Education Commission, the school was renamed Xuzhou Normal University.

In the history of school development, there are a number of well-known experts and scholars at home and abroad, such as Professor Liao Xudong, a famous linguist in China, Professor Wu Benxing, a famous poet and modern literature research expert in China, Professor Wang Jinshan, an ancient literature dramatist and historian in China, Professor Wu Ruyu, an educator Liu Baichuan, a psychologist Zhang Huanting, a historian Zang Yunpu and a geographer Luo Qixiang.
