Hebei Institute of Water Conservancy and Electric Power is located in Cangzhou City, which is located on the coast of Bohai Sea and beside the canal. It is an application-oriented undergraduate college directly under the Education Department of Hebei Province and jointly established with Cangzhou Municipal People's Government. The school was established in Tianjin 1952. It is jointly organized by Hebei Provincial Water Resources Department, Communications Department and Industry Department. The name of the school is "Hebei Water Conservancy and Civil Engineering School", which was one of the earliest water conservancy schools established in North China at that time and one of the earliest independent water conservancy schools established in China after liberation. 1955 was renamed as "Tianjin Water Conservancy School in Hebei Province"; 1958, moved to Baoding and upgraded.

Wuhan University of Water Conservancy and Electric Power, now known as Wuhan University, is a comprehensive national key university directly under the Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China (PRC), and has been selected as an independent auditing unit for degree authorization, Everest Plan and Strong Foundation Plan. Founded in 1893, the school has gone through the stages of dialect school, Wuchang Teachers College, National Wuchang Teachers College, National Wuchang University and National Second Zhongshan University. In 2000, Wuhan University merged with Wuhan University of Water Resources and Electric Power, Wuhan Technical University of Surveying and Mapping and Hubei Medical University to form the new Wuhan University.

Wuhan Institute of Water Conservancy and Electric Power has four undergraduate majors: water conservancy and hydropower engineering, agricultural water conservancy engineering, hydrology and water resources engineering, port and coastal engineering and river regulation engineering, and has established a national experimental teaching demonstration center for water conservancy and hydropower engineering. 1990: the first-class discipline of water conservancy engineering has the right to confer doctoral degrees.
1990: the postdoctoral scientific research mobile station of water conservancy project was established.
1998: "Farmland water conservancy project", "river basin development and river project" and "hydraulic structure project" became the key construction disciplines and "2 1 1 project" in the Ninth Five-Year Plan.
200 1: water conservancy and hydropower engineering, hydrology and water resources were rated as national key disciplines.
In 2002, "water resources and water conservancy and hydropower engineering discipline group" became the key construction discipline in the tenth five-year plan and "2 1 1 project".
In 2007, the first-class discipline of water conservancy engineering was recognized as a national key discipline by the Ministry of Education, including hydrology and water resources, hydraulics and river dynamics, hydraulic structure engineering, water conservancy and hydropower engineering and port coastal and offshore engineering.
