2. Introduction to Guangzhou Maritime College Guangzhou Maritime College is a full-time ordinary college directly under the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education. Formerly known as Guangzhou Maritime School of the Ministry of Communications, it was founded in 1964. 1July, 1992, it was upgraded to an independent college with the approval of the former State Education Commission, and changed its name to its present name. In August 2002, the former Guangzhou Maritime Engineering School was merged into the west campus of the school. It is the only independent maritime institution of higher learning in South China.
