Suzhou Sports School is a specialized school that combines sports with education, takes training as the center, takes educating people as the foundation, and strives to cultivate sports reserve talents. Since its establishment, with the concern of the leaders of the municipal party committee and municipal government, under the direct leadership of the Municipal Sports Bureau, with the help of the municipal education department, and through the joint efforts of all teachers and students, the school has been successively rated as "national advanced amateur sports training unit", "national advanced sports school", "national advanced youth sports work unit", "national weightlifting high-level reserve talent base" and "national key youth basketball training unit". The new school site will be started in September 2007. The newly-built sports school is located in Xiangcheng District, covering an area of 3 12 mu (including the water surface), with an estimated total investment of 250 million yuan. After completion, the sports school will be composed of four units: the former city sports school (Suzhou Zhenwu Middle School), the city youth sports teaching and training base, the city professional sports team management center, and the city sports science research institute. The integrated management mode of teaching, training, life and scientific research will be implemented, and finally the city sports vocational and technical college with a junior college system will be established.
