Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said in Phnom Penh on the 7th that according to the census conducted in 2008, the population of Cambodia increased by nearly 2 million in the past 10, reaching more than13.4 million. Prime Minister Hun Sen attended and delivered a speech at the announcement meeting of the results of the national census held in Phnom Penh. He said that this is the second census conducted in Cambodia since 1998. The results show that the population of Cambodia increased from 1 1438+0400 in 1998 to 1340 in 2008, with an average annual increase of about 200,000 people. Hun Sen said that the census results also showed that Cambodia's population density increased from 64 people per square kilometer 10 years ago to 75 people per square kilometer, far lower than other ASEAN countries such as Thailand and Vietnam. However, the population growth rate in Cambodia decreased from 2.49% in 1998 to 1.54% in 2008. The infant mortality rate dropped from 6.6% to 6%. Hun Sen pointed out that by the end of 2008, Cambodia's urban population accounted for about 19.5% of the country's total population, and nearly 6.5% of them moved from rural areas.
