1972 was renamed Yunnan Literature and Art School.
1995 was renamed yunnan art school.
1993 was awarded as a provincial key secondary school by the Yunnan Provincial People's Government and the Ministry of Culture.
1994 was rated as the only national key secondary school in Yunnan province by the Ministry of Education, and passed the re-evaluation in 1998 and 2002.
In May 2004, with the approval of the Yunnan Provincial People's Government, Yunnan Vocational College of Culture and Art was merged with the former Yunnan Film School and the former Yunnan Provincial Department of Culture Staff University, which is one of the national 18 provincial-level public art vocational colleges.
The school is a designated training institution for cultural professionals approved by the Ministry of Culture, and an actor qualification evaluation unit of China Actors Association. It is the training center of Yunnan minority art talents approved by Yunnan Ethnic Affairs Committee, and the resident station of Yunnan Correspondence Station of China Conservatory of Music and Beijing Dance Academy.
