The residential buildings in Wuzhen Street in Qing Dynasty are well preserved, and the wood carving and stone carving techniques on beams, columns, doors and windows are exquisite. Local residents still live in these old houses. Wuzhen began to develop tourism from 1998, with the goal of keeping Wuzhen as it was a hundred years ago.
Wuzhen is located in the center of six ancient towns in the south of the Yangtze River. It's only 80 minutes' drive from Shanghai, 50 minutes' drive from Hangzhou and close to Suzhou.
Wuzhen, Tongxiang City is an ancient water town with Xiuzhen Temple, Prince Zhaoming Reading Room, ancient Ginkgo biloba in Tang Dynasty, Chuanchuanwan and Shuangqiao. Zhaxi Old Street is one of the best preserved Ming and Qing buildings in China. Wuzhen is also the hometown of Mao Dun, a master of modern literature in China. Mao Dun's former residence in the town is the birthplace of Mao Dun, and now it is a national key cultural relics protection unit. The Lizhi Academy on the east side is Mao Dun's youth reading room, which is now turned into Mao Dun Memorial Hall.
Although Wuzhen has experienced more than 2,000 years of vicissitudes, it still completely retains the original style and pattern of the ancient water town. The whole town is connected by the river and Qiaojie Street. Today's Wuzhen can be roughly divided into traditional shops, traditional houses, water towns, traditional restaurants, traditional cultures and traditional workshops. In the workshop area, bamboo art, fan art, pottery art, pot art, Four Treasures of the Study, wood carving and textile ... once swept around Tongxiang, one after another. In the shop area, shops, pawn shops and drug stores that were once prominent in Wuzhen's history are all presented in their original appearance, leaving only the knife marks carved by the years. The residential areas are still the same, and the most worthwhile ones are the old people who still live on the street. They have been with Wuzhen for decades. In the cultural area, what impressed me deeply was the courtyard with blue calico flying all over the sky, the ancient stage with strong ancient charm and the legend of "shadow play" on the curtain ... Wuzhen 199 1 was named as a famous historical and cultural town at the provincial level. At the beginning of last year and the beginning of Tongxiang, Tongxiang invested more than 80 million yuan to protect and develop large-scale ancient towns, and established the spatial and temporal orientation of the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China and the individual orientation of excavating folk cultural characteristics 100 years ago.
