Wuhan Conservatory of Music, located in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, is one of the nine independent conservatories in China and the only independent music institution in Central China. It is a master's degree awarding unit, the first batch of pilot units of master of arts professional degree education in China, and a social art level grading institution.
Wuhan Conservatory of Music was jointly founded by Central South College of Literature and Art, South China People's College of Literature and Art and Guangxi Academy of Arts. 1953.
The respective predecessors of the music parts of the above three schools: Zhongyuan University College of Literature and Art and Wuchang College of Art, which were taken over by 1949; Guangdong College of Art, Guangzhou College of Art and Hong Kong Chinese Conservatory of Music, which were merged into Hunan University College of Literature and Art by 1950; Guangxi Provincial Art College's predecessor, Guangxi Provincial Art Teacher Training Course, etc.
1958, Central South Conservatory of Music merged with Wuhan Art Teachers College to form Hubei Art College (1972- 1978 was named "Hubei Art College"). Postgraduates begin to enroll students 1979. 1985 was renamed Wuhan Conservatory of Music. ?
As of June 2022, the college has two campuses, Jiefang Road Campus and Binjiang Campus, with a total campus area of 1.80 mu, teaching equipment assets worth more than 37 million yuan, and a library collection of more than 270,000 books; There are 9 general undergraduate teaching units and 9 general undergraduate majors; There are 475 full-time teachers (including external teachers) and 6080 students of all kinds, including 446 graduate students. ?
