More and more high schools need five characteristics to introduce international classes.
"More and more high schools need five characteristics to introduce international classes" was reported on February 20th.

Guangzhou Daily reported that a few days ago, a news article "How many children were fooled by international classes" caused quite a stir among parents in Guangzhou. International classes in Guangzhou are in a period of vigorous development. More and more ordinary high schools are organizing international classes, and the courses and practices of international classes are also diverse, so parents can't agree on their choices.

What kind of students are suitable for international classes? What kind of students are expected to apply to top universities in the world after completing international classes? Taking the international department of a high school in Guangzhou as a sample, the reporter made a sample analysis of 12 international students who successfully entered two prestigious American universities, and found that these students have five common characteristics: excellent academic foundation in junior high school, perseverance during their three-year study in senior high school, strong time management ability, strong autonomous learning ability and rich extracurricular life and activities.

Trend: More and more high schools are introducing international classes.

Our study guide reported earlier that more than 20 high schools in Guangzhou have opened international classes, accounting for about 1/6 of the city. After that, the Sixth Middle School started international classes one after another. At present, a large number of high schools in Guangzhou are planning to hold international classes (or international departments and international high schools).

The relevant leaders of Huangpu Education Bureau recently went to the foreign language experimental middle school affiliated to CUHK for investigation, and introduced the establishment of an international high school. If this project is successfully implemented, it will be the fifth school in Guangdong to introduce IB curriculum after Shunde Country Garden School, Agatha International Preparatory School, Guangzhou American International School and Guangzhou Nanhu International School. According to the person in charge of IB course, 68 schools in China have launched IB courses, including public schools 14, private schools 15 and 39 international schools.

It is understood that there are various curriculum systems adopted by international classes in Guangzhou ordinary high schools. Some have introduced American AP courses, such as the International Department of the High School Attached to China Normal University and Guangzhou Foreign Language School. Some introduced Canadian courses, such as Huamei High School and Qifu Middle School. There are "PGA" courses, such as Guangzhou No.1 Middle School and Huanggang Middle School; There are also their own exploration courses, such as the "CCAE Experimental Class" in Nanwu Middle School; There are also American courses, such as NCPA American High School in Yingdong Middle School.

Different courses have different requirements for students' quality. For example, the AP course is aimed at top students, and the junior high school foundation will be quite difficult. IB course also requires students to pass the language barrier, knowledge barrier and method barrier. When enrolling students, IB schools should not only look at the results of the senior high school entrance examination, but also organize interviews to see if students have the potential to study IB courses.

Enrollment: "planned" and "unplanned" are two ways.

Another difficult problem for international classes in Guangzhou senior high schools is to choose "planned" or "unplanned" enrollment. "Planned" means that the enrollment quota of international classes is included in the school's enrollment plan, and students need to take the senior high school entrance examination and reach the admission score of the school before they can be admitted.

At present, Guangzhou No.1 Middle School, Nanwu Middle School and Guangzhou Foreign Language School are all "planned" enrollment. There is a great advantage in ensuring students, but the disadvantage is that the quality of students is related to the admission batch where the high school is located. Because the model high school is arranged to be admitted in advance before the middle school entrance examination, the "planned" enrollment is beneficial to the model high school, but unfavorable to the first, second and third batch of schools.

"Unplanned" refers to the independent enrollment of international classes, which does not participate in the normal enrollment of schools and does not occupy the enrollment plan of ordinary high schools. At present, the middle school attached to China Normal University, Guangfu and Zhongyuan all belong to this category. Because "unplanned" enrollment jumps out of the admission framework of senior high school entrance examination, it is conducive to merit-based admission and the introduction of off-campus resources to jointly run schools, which is the first choice for many non-model high schools.

Some parents "want to take into account the National College Entrance Examination (Weibo) and foreign universities". According to industry insiders, it is best for such parents to take home economics classes. International classes are aimed at foreign universities from the beginning. Compared with domestic classes, what it really needs to do is to help students gradually liberate from passive education, cultivate the spirit of active learning and independent research, and adapt to the extensive, free and independent learning methods abroad.

Teacher's experience: international classes are education, not training.

One of the major crimes that international classes are regarded as "fooling" students is that "exam pressure" is no less than that of ordinary high school students. In order to improve foreign language test scores, "international classes" have been attending TOEFL and IELTS training classes directly since the first year of high school to cope with the "foreign college entrance examination". As a result, the three-year international class has gradually evolved into a three-year overseas training exam-oriented class. Because everyone is preparing for the exam? Apply for the SAT in American universities? As a result, AP course scores are also rising. In the past, two A's were admitted to famous universities, but now three or four A's may not be admitted.

The insiders believe that the effectiveness of international classes can be seen from the number of courses offered. Take AP courses and A- Level courses as examples. The AP Curriculum College Committee has 37 disciplines. General international classes only offer calculus, statistics, physics and other subjects that China students are good at. There are nearly 70 A-Level courses, and the three courses offered by China A-Level schools are "Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry", because these three courses are related to the in-depth study of science in senior high schools in China and the easy achievement of high scores.

Washington International Department has 12 AP course, which is a school offering more courses in China. Director Zhu of the International Department of the High School Attached to China Normal University believes that international classes should cultivate students' quality, lay a foundation for their success in life and career, and prevent them from falling into the cultivation of merit. Director Zhu said that going to an American university is only a stepping stone. Whether you can integrate into an American university is another matter. The A-Level of China Normal University offers the course 16, which is also an institution offering more courses. When interviewed by reporters at A-Level of China Normal University, the teacher in charge of teaching repeatedly stressed that A-Level course is an international education and can never be made into training.

Student experience: being admitted to a famous American school has cheats.

What kind of students are suitable for international classes? What kind of students are expected to apply for prestigious American schools when they enter international classes? According to a survey of two students admitted to famous American schools in the International Department of the High School Attached to China Normal University/KLOC-0, these students have five common characteristics: excellent academic foundation in junior high school, perseverance during three years of study in senior high school, strong time management ability, strong autonomous learning ability and rich extracurricular life and activities.

Zeng, a graduate of Washington International Department, was admitted to Wharton Business School. Wharton Business School is the world's leading business school and was the first person admitted to Guangzhou in recent years. How are the five similarities reflected in her?

He was admitted to Washington with more than 750 points in the senior high school entrance examination, and then transferred to the international department of Washington. The excellent results of junior high school laid the foundation for international classes. Senior one students need to study the basic courses of three-year senior high schools in China and the preparatory courses of AP. A lot of knowledge requires students to have autonomous learning ability. When I was a sophomore, I was very busy, preparing for the SAT 1, SAT2, AP exams, taking part in the Guangdong taikoo hui Oral English Competition, and shuttling between radio and school, especially testing her time management ability. But she finally achieved a double harvest in the exam and competition, with sat 1 2260 and full marks in all six AP courses. In extracurricular activities, I also had a good performance. She is the editor-in-chief of the school magazine, and founded the school magazine "Voice", which contains the learning trends and study abroad trends of each student (Weibo). From the text and layout of the magazine to the printing and distribution, she worked with members of her school magazine. She also made a microfilm with her classmates. (Reporter: Deng Zhongmou)
