Brief Introduction of Correspondence University of Painting and Calligraphy in China
China Correspondence College of Painting and Calligraphy is a mass and social school sponsored by China Society of Painting and Calligraphy for the Aged. It was established at the end of 1984 and started school in May 1985. Headquartered in Beijing, the school has set up branch schools nationwide to recruit students. By the end of 1988, all provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions in China had established 2 branch schools and correspondence stations, with 17233 graduates. There were 57,000 correspondence students in the 87th and 88th sessions. Branches (stations) are sponsored by local party, government, army, democratic parties, mass organizations, factories and mines. There are four professional departments: calligraphy department, traditional Chinese painting department, practical art department and teacher training department. Edit and publish the correspondence newspaper of painting and calligraphy. There are more than 50 staff members, mostly veteran cadres.
